HMS Heron Royal Navy Volunteer Band

Our band is a friendly and welcoming wind ensemble which performs as a concert band and marching band. Its members are drawn from serving and ex-serving members of the Armed Forces and civilians from the unit and local area.

The repertoire is common to most concert bands and includes popular classics, overtures, film music, selections from West End shows, military marches and contemporary works. It is constantly refreshed with new and challenging pieces.

The band meets on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at RNAS Yeovilton, near Ilchester. It prides itself in participating in a wide variety of engagements not only to support the establishment and the local area but also around the UK and abroad.

Although a busy and hard-working band, time is always found to socialise together in addition to music-making.

"Thank you so much for your band's concert on Saturday. It was a great selection of music professionally performed by the band... with just the right touch of informality. We are so grateful that you could fit us in and give us the double whammy of experiencing an excellent concert and making money for our roof appeal."

- Christopher Story, Holy Trinity Church Concert, Yeovil, 30th July 2016

"For a number of years now we have welcomed the Volunteer Band of HMS Heron to the church of St James the Great, Longburton where they have become a firm favourite with and we hope that we have also become a venue in which they feel very much at home. The last concert was an eclectic mix of items that revealed the versatility and musical competence of the band ranging from Widor's Toccata to songs from the musicals as well as traditional naval tunes."

- Stuart McCreadie, St James the Great Church, Longburton, 23rd July 2016
