6 May 2017 - Somerton Concert

The Band opened the Somerton Music and Arts Festival early with a very well-received concert in the Church of St. Michael & All Angels. We would like to thank the festival committee for looking after us so well and we look forward to performing in the lovely church once again soon.

26 April 2017 - Last Night of the Proms in Dorchester

We had a fabulous evening performing at the Dorchester Corn Exchange in support of the Dorchester Disabled Club and we were very pleased to welcome RNAS Yeovilton's new Commanding Officer to watch the concert too. In the programme were a couple of new solos from Gary Mills and Liz Hughes plus the European Premiere of a concert band arrangement of Gordon Goodwin's Hunting Wabbits 2: A Bad Hare Day.

23 April 2017 - St. George's Day Parade, Chineham

We had an invitation via Facebook from the 1st Chineham Scout Group to lead their St. George's Day Parade. We happily accepted and ended up thoroughly enjoying ourselves. After our arrival at the group's HQ we were met with refreshments and we got changed into our uniform. Then we headed up to the start point for the parade which was just outside the main shopping centre but at the beginning of a woodland path! We meandered through the trees, thinking that we should've played If You Go Down to the Woods Today, before arriving onto a road and then the main parade area which was by the village hall. The parade included many scouting groups and was probably about 300-strong. We'd like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the 1st Chineham Scout Group for hosting us so well and we hope to work with you again in the future.

18 March 2017 - Royal Wessex Yeomanry Reg. Dinner

We were proud to support our friends in the British Army by providing background music for their annual Officers' Mess dinner. The VVIP for the dinner was HRH Prince Edward so the whole band particularly enjoyed meeting him. We performed melodies from film and theatre including Pirates of the Caribbean and the march from 1941

22 Feb - 1 Mar 2017 - Cologne Carnival, Germany

The band hosted other members of the Royal Navy Volunteer Band Association for a week away in Germany in support of their Rosenmöntag Carnival. We performed at 13 different gigs thought the week including a 5.5km parade and a concert venue full to capacity. Much fun was had and we would like to thank our sponsors, the Domstädter Band, for all their hospitality. We're already looking forward to returning next year.

2 February 2017 - Concert at All Saints Church, Martock

After a busy January working off our festive hangovers and larger-than-usual waistlines whilst learning a new programme of music, we performed in the lovely setting of Martock Church. The programme included the overture to Zampa, a xylophone solo called On the Track, performed by Katie Rudd, and an arrangement of Eric Whitacre's Sleep. We were very well looked after by the Guardians of Martock so we must say a big thank you to them!

1-2 December 2016 - Christmas Concerts under Concorde

We returned once again to the Fleet Air Arm Museum for our annual Christmas concert series performed under the Concorde. The programme had an extensive range of genres including Brahms' Academic Festival Overture, music from Star Wars, a hilarious programmatic work called Hyken's Serenade, a lovely vocal solo called May It Be performed by Nikki Vellacott and, of course, Christmas melodies and solos in plentiful supply. The band really enjoyed performing with colleagues from Northwood HQ Band and we received excellent feedback. Check out all 113 of the professional photos on our Gallery page.

18 November 2016 - Christmas Lights Switch On, Ilminster

We enjoyed a lovely evening, albeit slightly chilly, in Ilminster celebrating their Christmas Lights Switch On. We performed many festive tunes and some selections from classics such as Mary Poppins and Wizard of Oz. We managed to stay warm by unleashing a piece called Invincible by Two Steps from Hell which was arranged by a Royal Marines Band Service arranger named WO2 Russ Young.

11-13 November 2016 - Remembrance Service and Parade

We remembered those that have lost their lives in conflict by supporting RNAS Yeovilton's Remembrance Service on the 11th which took place at the Fleet Air Arm Church in the village of Yeovilton. It was a fitting service with the whole Air Station in attendance. There was a wonderful fly over by the RN Historic Flight Swordfish just after 11am and the Yeovilton Military Wives Choir helped support the event too. On Remembrance Sunday we led the parade in Beaminster from the fire station down to the church. A lovely weekend of pause and reflection.

21 October 2016 - West Coker Trafalgar Night Dinner

We helped commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar with the Coker Rope and Sail Trust Dinner. All sorts of melodies were performed including some sea shanties to help mark the occasion. A couple of us even got dressed up in 1805 Old-Time Rig!

15 October 2016 - Castle Cary Carnival

After making sure we could be seen in a very dark Castle Cary we enjoyed leading their carnival.
